Pride Night is upon us, Miami. On Thursday, April 5, PAMM will host a special edition of PAMM Free Community Night: Pride in conjunction with Miami Beach Gay Pride. Join us for a pride celebration hosted by Karla Croqueta on our waterfront terrace with live sets by DJ Hottpants and DJ ZEHNO, drag performances by Tiffany Fantasia, KUNST, Queef Latina, and Noel Leon, pride-themed cocktails, a House of Lords vogue showcase, a glitter booth, and more. Join in on the colorful celebration and RSVP here.
We chatted with Miami drag queen Queef Latina, who will be performing this Thursday at 7pm. Check out our interview below and follow her at @queef.latina on Instagram.
Tell us about how you got into doing drag.
I never intended to start doing drag, it all happened very organically. When I lived in Brooklyn, I had been hanging out with a lot of queens (and even dated one) but never thought I had what it takes to be a queen. Eventually I moved to Miami, and truly missed the queer drag scene that I had become used to in NYC. I started dressing up just for fun to parties like Counter Corner, and one day I was asked to perform. Fast forward to a few years later and I’m still at it!
You’ll be taking over our terrace overlooking Biscayne Bay. Can you spill some details on what you have cooking up for your performance at PAMM Free Community Night: Pride?
Kunst and I will be doing our first ever mother-daughter duet! This is something we have been wanting to do for a while and are incredibly excited to show Miami our collaborative efforts. It’s going to be a gag!
What tips do you have for young aspiring drag queens?
My advice for young aspiring drag queens is to remember to have fun! Drag should always be about having fun and expressing yourself, but sometimes young queens put too much pressure on themselves to reach an unrealistic goal. Let go of those expectations and live your true self.
What does it mean for you to perform at PAMM on pride night?
When I was growing up in Miami, I never had the opportunity to attend events as inclusive and open minded like this because they didn’t exist. It is an honor for me as an artist to be able to contribute to PAMM’s community Pride night—I want to show locals that Miami has a blossoming, welcoming, and inclusive gay community full of all types of kooky characters.
