PAMM PRESENTS: HOLLY HUNT

Holly Hunt 2017 by Teajay Smith

Local psychedelic-drone band Holly Hunt is stopping by the museum tonight to celebrate Miami Art Week before embarking on a Florida tour. Drummer Beatriz Monteavaro and guitarist Gavin Perry will be taking over PAMM’s terrace for a special performance alongside DJ Maseo of De La Soul, Young Paris, and spoken word poet Aja Monet. Playing at local music institutions around town from Sweat Records to Churchill’s Pub, Monteavaro and Perry are no strangers to Miami’s music scene.

Check out our interview with Holly Hunt’s Beatriz Monteavaro.

PAMM: What are your thoughts on Miami’s music scene? Are there any new emerging local bands that we should know about?

Monteavaro: Over the last several years we have traveled to many cities in the US, and have discovered a lot of great music scenes. That said, we feel like we have one of the most interesting genre-mixing, experimental, and tight knit scenes that in many ways aren’t found elsewhere. The punk, metal, and noise crowds go to each other’s shows, cross-pollinate, and collaborate. The people are friendly and supportive. We love our music scene.

We think one of the best new Miami bands that not many people have heard of is Los Reyesz Bong Death.

Are there any particular Miami Art Week events that you’re looking forward to?

Monteavaro: We are really looking forward to PAMM Presents tonight.

What does it mean to the band to play at PAMM?

Monteavaro: We are excited for the chance to showcase another aspect of our creative endeavors at such a prestigious institution, and during one of the most important weeks on Miami’s cultural calendar.

What has the band been up to since the release of “The Wait”/”Bowling Green” 12-inch single? What’s next?

Monteavaro: We’re currently working on writing new material for a new full-length record, with the hope that we will release a follow up to Year One sometime next year. Next week, we will be meeting up with our friends in Junior Bruce to play a few dates in Gainesville, St.Pete, and a stop in Orlando to play the second annual Florida is Loud Fest.
